Conference: A Lifetime of Solutions

The purpose of the conference was to look at ways of integrating services to persons with fetal alcohol syndrome, throughout their lifespan, building on a continuum of supports for the individuals and their families.
Symposium: Prevention Strategies for High Risk Women

The purpose of the conference was to train participants:
- screen for maternal alcohol consumption during pregnancy
- screen for social risk factors which may trigger alcohol consumption during pregnancy
- screen for early childhood developmental delays, utilizing a developmental screening tool uniquely suited to northern families

Conference: A Focus on Youth

The purpose of the conference was to:
- raise awareness of FAS as a lifelong disability
- increase knowledge about issues and challenges of FAS faced by youth, families and communities
- foster skills in effective prevention/intervention strategies that addresse the challenges of FAS among youth
- profile effective and innovative programs and strategies
- provide information on the latest research information regarding FAS and youth
- provide opportunities to network with others working to address FAS and to share information about resources and experiences
- support communities in addressing FAS
Symposium: Fetal Alcohol Syndrome: A Practical Approach

To improve delegates' ability to understand the role of primary health in the recognition and diagnosis of FAS; identify high risk behaviours in pregnant women and become familiar with screening tools; understand the role of psychologist, psychological testing, and behavioral assessments; and understand the development of treatment plans.

Symposium: Prevention Strategies for High Risk Women

This symposium facilitated a discussion among health care experts from all three jurisdictions on intervening with women at high risk for delivering a baby with FAS and encouraging interprovincial participation and collaboration among community stakeholders.
