Priorities & Future Directions
(Effective: October 2003)
The priority areas of the Canada Northwest FASD Partnership (CNFASDP) are clustered into seven components:
1. Shared Vision
All partners and sectors share a common vision and guide their actions to achieve it.
- Priority Areas
- Use a common vision in all material distributed by CNFASDP and Partners
- Continue to promote adoption of the shared vision by other stakeholders
2. Social Marketing / Public Awareness
Members of the public are aware and understand the issues and effects related to FASD.
- Priority Areas
- Incorporate a common message and theme within all Partners' public awareness initiatives
3. Prevention of FASD
Primary Prevention:
All pregnancies are alcohol free and healthy based on the determinants of health.
Secondary Prevention:
All women of childbearing potential who may be at risk for having a child with FASD are identified early and provided with appropriate services.

- Continue to share resources, promising practices and expertise
4. Community Capacity
Communities have a supportive environment for building community capacity to address FASD
- Priority Areas
- Share learnings through reviews and publications
- Continue to share resources promising practice and expertise
- Celebrate successes
5. Training / Education
Professionals, general public and vulnerable individuals have the necessary knowledge and skills in prevention and care of FASD
- Priority Areas
- Sponsor Symposiums and FASD Conferences biennially
- Assess existing training resources and need, and establish future direction for design of resources and focus of training
6. Government Leadership
Governments and sectors of society act together to change the environment and reduce FASD
- Priority Areas
- Examine and implement opportunities to play a catalyst role in the implementation of key initiatives
- Continue to harmonize with federally funded initiatives
7. Evaluation / Research
Quality information for decision making from research and evaluation is easily available
- Priority Areas
- Assess existing research / evaluation resources and needs
- Establish future direction for development of research / evaluation capacity and focus of evaluation / research work
