Nunavut

Rosie Kagak

Ms. Kagak has served on the Health Canada National Advisory Committee for FASD (Minister appointed), and has participated in several meetings and discussions to facilitate an agenda for FASD Prevention and Intervention in Nunavut. In addition, Ms. Kagak has also participated in several research meetings as a representative for the National Advisory Committee for Healthy Communities, Mothers and Children Research Project.

Since 1993, Rosie Kagak has been the Community Health Representative in Kugluktuk, Nunavut. She is an active participant of the Kugluktuk FASD Pilot Project community and a member of the Kakayak Daycare Board of Directors for past 5 years. She has also previously served as a member of the Kugluktuk Hamlet Council and has participateadon the Nunavut FASD Steering Committee since 2001.

Rosie has received specific FASD related training through Pauktuutit, Children Come First Presentation Training and Health Canada, as Asset Mapping Facilitator. In April 2004, Rosie delivered a two-day Asset Mapping Session in Kugluktuk, which resulted in the development of a community action plan. Rosie understands the needs of the community, families and children and is committed to the development of future programs and services. Most recently, Rosie received training for Great Kids Facilitator/ Supervisor Training towards programming for early childhood intervention in the community.
