Susan Chatwood received a Nursing Diploma in 1983, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of British Columbia in 1987 and a Masters in Epidemiology from McGill in 1996. She has spent most of her career in remote and northern communities, working in the clinical setting, public health and research. She was a founding member of a northern-based health research network for the Northwest Territories, the Arctic Health Research Network NT, and currently serves as the Executive Director. Although one is always a generalist in the north, her primary interests are maternal/child health, surveillance, and targeted research to support health programming relevant in the north. She authored a report in 2005 with recommendations for a congenital anomalies surveillance system in the NWT. The consultations arising from this project resulted in recommendations specific to FASD diagnosis and surveillance in the NWT. She continues to be involved in initiatives related to FASD diagnosis and prevention in the territory. She helped establish the Northern Cochrane Network Site, and currently serves as territorial Co-Rep.
